The key laboratory of crop genetic engineering was approved by the Jilin Provincial Department of Education in 2011. Professor Pan Hongyu is now the head of the laboratory. The main task of the laboratory is to use the theory of plant molecular biology and genetic engineering technology to excavate new high-yield, high-quality, and stress-resistant plant genes from halophytes such as Atriplex tetrapod, obtain high-efficiency starting elements, and create high-yield, high-quality, and resistant plants. Invert new crop materials, cultivate new crop varieties, etc.
At present, the laboratory has presided over and completed the key project of the Ministry of Agriculture for the cultivation of new varieties of genetically modified organisms-"Cloning and functional verification of plant resistance genes and stress-inducible promoters and research on transformation of maize" (2009ZX08009-062B), etc. Batch new genes for disease resistance, salt resistance and other multi-resistant plants and inducible high-efficiency promoters, created and cultivated a batch of new materials for high-yield, high-quality, disease-resistant crops, and established a cloning and transformation system for functional genes to cultivate high-yield , High-quality, high-efficiency, and multi-resistant new varieties of crops lay a solid foundation.
The laboratory has achieved some outstanding results in three levels of research on the selection, innovation and utilization of genetic resources, the cloning and identification of important functional genes, crop genetic transformation and the selection and breeding of new varieties of genetically modified crops. Among them, in 2020, "Analysis of New Plant Stress Resistant Genes and Inducible Promoter Functions" won the second prize of Natural Science of Jilin Province.
