The Jilin Province Modern Agriculture International Science and Technology Cooperation Base was approved by the Jilin Province Science and Technology Department in November 2011. It is jointly constructed by Jilin University, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the People’s Government of Nong’an County. It aims to collect and utilize crop germplasm resources and introduce demonstration modern agriculture. New technologies, the promotion of conservation tillage technologies, and new achievements such as smart agriculture. Professor Pan Hongyu is the head of the base.
Since the base was approved, under the leadership of Professor Pan Hongyu, with the team of Professor Donald White and Professor Robert Dunker of the University of Illinois, the team of Professor Kevin T. Montgomery of the United States USDA, the team of Professor Marcelo Carena of North Dakota State University, and Cornell Professor Gillian Turgeon of Phytopathogenic Fungi Biology of the University and the team of Professor Jeffry Rollins of the University of Florida in the United States have carried out substantial international cooperation. The results of the cooperation were selected in the "Compilation of the Achievements of Introducing Intelligence in Jilin Province in 2015", providing technical support and demonstration role for achieving the goal of increasing grain production in Jilin Province by 10 billion catties.
In December 2020, the National Key R&D Program was approved for the key special project of international scientific and technological innovation cooperation between governments (2019YFE0114200). In addition, this international cooperation base plays an important role in major project research and development, scientific and technological exchanges, personnel training, and achievement transformation.
